MY GIRL 2010 Justin Taylor was now 27, no longer a boy but a man. He was the proud owner of his own art gallery- a small, modern place designed to show off his art pieces. Although he chose to have the store run by someone else, he ensured he was there to meet and greet his customers once in a while. He still had little shows in New York, which he simply loved, but he knew he had it made in Pittsburgh. Beside his income, he had his heart in Pitts. Brian Kinney was still the love of his life. Justin couldn’t see his life without his partner of so many years. He still couldn’t believe how much Brian had changed since he had met him. He still had his cynical ways, but he was so good to Justin. He had allowed Justin into parts of himself that no one else knew existed. Even though Brian had never shown it, he had needed to be loved more than anyone else Justin had ever met. Nearing 40, Brian still looked as young and sexy as he did nine years ago. He had a few grays lost in his head of thick hair, which he complained about constantly. Brian was no longer a partner at Vangard, preferring to sell out and open up his own agency. Fortunately for him, he had built such a good reputation for himself over the years that most of his clients moved with him. His new firm, TITAN was very successful and lucrative. Because of the two incomes, the couple no longer lived at the loft but owned a three bedroom condo town house with a rooftop. The first floor was their storage room and garage; second floor was the kitchen and TV/living room area; third floor had the bedrooms and bathrooms and the last set of steps led up to the roof top. The minute Justin had seen the place, he fell in love. And Brian, although sad to part with his loft, agreed the new place would have a lot more space for Justin to do his art and him to have his private study. One bedroom was made into Brian’s study while the other became Justin’s art room. They had moved there a little more than five years ago. Justin had immediately had a house warming to meet all the neighbours. Unfortunately, not all showed up, some feeling uneasy living next to gay men. However, of the few that did come, Brian and Justin had become great friends with. Justin and a young woman, Jaime, were now even best friends. The gang was still around too. Mikey was dating another doctor, Paul. Emmett and Ted were still single and mingling and the lesbians were happier than ever. Deb was engaged to her police-officer, Horvath and still taking care of a now sickly Vic. And the good part was-they all still lived in Pittsburgh. So Justin really couldn’t complain. He had everything going his way. He had the house, the man, the job and the friends. He was happy. “Hmmm. Something smells delicious,’ those were the first words out of Brian’s mouth when he came home. He dropped some papers and his jacket on the kitchen table and planted a kiss on his young lover’s lips. “You’re late. Jaime’s coming over for dinner tonight. She says she needs to talk to us about something important.’ Justin said. Brian cupped Justin’s face in his hands and grumbled, “Shut up and kiss me properly.” Justin laughed and slipped his arms around Brian’s slim waist, his tongue caressing his partner’s. They kissed for long minutes until they heard the doorbell. Justin pulled away. “Shit!” Brian groaned. “Tell her to come back later. Let’s go fuck.” Justin swatted Brian’s butt. “Later, I promise. Now go take a shower. And be on your best behaviour.” “Aren’t I always? And it’s only Jaime for crying out loud!” Brian muttered as he walked up the stairs. “Hi!” Jaime said cheerily, a bottle of wine in her arms. “I hope I’m not early. I was getting these divine smells from downstairs and stayed away as long as I could.” Justin laughed. “You’re right on time, James. I just sent Brian to shower.” James was Justin’s pet name for her. Jaime plopped herself down on the black leather couch. Justin honestly loved this girl. She reminded him so much of Daphne, who he hadn’t seen in ages. Daph had moved to another State after marrying. Emails were their way of keeping in touch now. Jaime, who was the same age as Justin, had long, black curly hair and eyes very much like Justin’s; a deep, sky blue. She had glorious cheekbones and full lips. She was a few inches taller than Justin and on the slim side. “So what’s this that you’ve got to talk to us about?” Justin asked. “Just something that’s been bugging me. What’s for dinner?” Jaime said quickly. “Lamb with baby potatoes and salad. I didn’t have much time to cook today. I had to go down to the store.” “It sounds scrumptious!” Brian walked down the stairs fifteen minutes later dressed in jeans and a shirt, his hair still wet from his shower. He smiled at Jaime. “Well if it isn’t the woman who’s going to turn me straight.” He planted a kiss on her now rosy cheek. It amused Justin how Jaime turned into an idiot every time Brian flirted with her. She would get red to her roots and not be able to say anything sensible for long minutes…just like tonight. While Brian searched the fridge for a beer, Jaime composed herself. She glared at Justin, who was shaking his head and grinning at her. “Jaime brought wine, babe.” Justin told Brian. “Set the table, please?” Brian set the table and the three of them sat. “Can you tell us now, James? I’m curious.” Justin asked. He passed around the salad for them to help themselves. “Don’t you guys prefer to eat first?” Jaime asked nervously. Brian looked at Justin. “Is it something bad? Did something happen?” Justin asked. “No. Nothing like that.” Jaime sighed. “Then what?” She put down her fork and swallowed. Taking a deep breath, she looked at Justin. “Don’t get mad but…I want to have a baby.” Justin’s jaw dropped before he broke into a smile. He took her hand in his and squeezed. “Why would I be mad? I love it! And Brian and I’ll be there the whole time. We’ll even baby-sit for you!” “What? How did I get involved in this?” Brian joked. He caught the expression on Jaime’s face and waited for her to finish. He wasn’t sure if even he was ready for what she was about to say. “Justin…you don’t understand.” Jaime interrupted her friend. “What?” Justin asked happily. “I…I want to have a baby…with you.”
